Come in from the cold!
If you signed up for the January 19 date, you are automatically included on January 26. If you want to join in on the 26th, click here to register.
The Connecticut Horticultural Society (CT Hort) and Ballek’s Garden Center encourage you to melt away the winter chill with an afternoon in East Haddam. Come in from the cold and spend the afternoon at Ballek’s greenhouse exploring the remarkable world of indoor plants. Get answers regarding your own domestic greenery. And spend time with fellow gardeners.
The Ballek family’s roots run deep in East Haddam. Fourteen generation have lived on and farmed the 55-acre property. Last year the family formally donated the development rights of the farmland to the Connecticut Farmland Trust in perpetuity. The agreement limits future development of the farm to agricultural use. Anita Ballek, the family’s matriarch, sees stewardship of her family’s land as a serious responsibility so she and her children have ensured that the land will be forever respected.
This casual gathering for friendship, knowledge and refreshments will take place Saturday, January 19 from 3-5 p.m. at Ballek’s Garden Center, 90 Maple Avenue in East Haddam. Cost is: $15 for members of CT Hort, $25 for guests and $5 for students with a valid ID.
