Step into the era when American wealth created landscapes that rivaled those of European royalty and discover the magnificent gardens that still captivate visitors today. During the Gilded Age in America (1870–1920)\, wealthy industrialists such as the Vanderbilts\, Rockefellers\, and du Ponts built extravagant homes and gardens that rivaled the palaces and villas of Europe. Fueled by competition\, world travel\, plant-hunting expeditions\, technological advances\, and passions for nature and art\, the Gilded Age gave rise to landscapes of astonishing beauty and horticulture. Gardens of the Gilded Age showcases a selection of estates on the East Coast\, diving into their histories and the significant plants and architectural features that make them striking and unique. With lush photography and informative text\, Gardens of the Gilded Age is a delight for the senses and a fascinating view of the era. \nAbout the Author:  Jana Milbocker is an author\, speaker\, and garden designer. She loves to visit gardens and historic sites in the United States and abroad and share her trips through guided garden tours\, photos\, and prose. In addition to Gardens of the Gilded Age\, she is the author of four garden travel guides which profile 310 gardens on the East Coast: The Garden Tourist: 120 Destination Gardens and Nurseries in the Northeast\, The Garden Tourist’s Mid-Atlantic: A Guide to 90 Beautiful Historic and Public Gardens\, The Garden Tourist’s New England: A Guide to 140 Outstanding Gardens and Nurseries\, and The Garden Tourist’s Florida: A Guide to 80 Tropical Gardens in the Sunshine State. Milbocker lives in the Boston area\, and worked as an art director and marketing specialist for 30 years before launching her garden design business in 2010. \nThe Moderator:  Dallas Coursey\, UConn Extension Master Gardener and garden coordinator for The Mark Twain House & Museum.
