DESCRIPTION:This comprehensive tour invites a closer look at the architecture of the River building and Barns. Take in 360–degree views of the surrounding landscapes while exploring the building’s sustainable design\, curated interiors\, and materials choices. During the tour\, sample a cup of tea from Grace Farms Tea & Coffee\, a Certified B Corp that demonstrates and educates about ethical and sustainable supply chains.\n\nThe River building\, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning firm\, SANAA\, holds LEED Gold certification for Building Design and Construction. A demonstration of our continuing efforts to be as sustainable as possible\, in 2024\, we were awarded Gold certification for Building Operations and Maintenance\, building on our LEED Silver certification in 2019.\n\nThe River building was awarded the prestigious 2014/2015 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP)\, in addition to the AIA National 2017 Architecture Honor Award and AIA Connecticut 2016 Design Honor Award.\n\nThursdays and Saturdays | 10:30am – 12:00 pm

DESCRIPTION:The Story of Plastic is an exposé revealing the ugly truth behind plastic pollution and the false solution of plastic recycling. “The Story of Plastic” presents a cohesive timeline of how we got to our current global plastic pollution crisis and the efforts of the oil and gas industry to successfully manipulate the narrative around it. From the extraction of fossil fuels and plastic disposal to the global resistance fighting back\, “The Story of Plastic” is a life-changing\, Emmy-winning film depicting one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues. \nAfterward\, join us for an engaging discussion on restricting plastic pollution with Katharine Owens\, Ph.D.\, a National Geographic Explorer and Fulbright Nehru fellow. Katharine is an interdisciplinary scholar who merges science\, policy\, and the arts on the topic of plastic pollution. She’s worked on plastic pollution projects worldwide\, including Connecticut\, India\, Scotland\, and the Arctic Circle. Katharine is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Politics\, Economics\, and International Studies at the University of Hartford. \nIn partnership with Bloomfield’s Conservation\, Energy & Environment Committee (CEEC). Brad Huskinson\, the event’s moderator\, is an ally of the CEEC\, and a speaker for the environmental non-profit\, Beyond Plastics\, which fights plastic pollution.
