SUMMARY:Learning with Nature | Monarch Migration
DESCRIPTION:Join Grace Farms Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly and experts from Kansas State University for a hands-on field study to safely record\, tag\, and release monarch butterflies throughout Grace Farms 80 acres of landscape.\n\nLearn how to net\, tag\, and record Monarchs in a way that supports the best outcome for healthy butterflies to survive migration\, winter\, the flight north in late spring\, and successful reproduction in late summer. This workshop ends with our a cup of our butterfly pea flower tea and a culinary treat in the Commons.\n\nOver the past few decades\, monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90%. As a participant of the Kansas State University’s Monarch Watch program\, Grace Farms has been working to increase the Monarch habitat and this summer we will be participating in the Monarch Watch tagging program.\n\nRecommended for ages 12 and up. Due to uneven terrain for the field portion of the workshop\, strollers\, walkers and wheelchairs are not recommended.

DESCRIPTION:Thank you to our HLCT volunteers this past Saturday. They did their job of removing invasive mugwort at our site at Hamden Town Center Park so well\, that now we have a bare patch to fill with new native pollinator perennials. But we need to act fast. Please join us if you can for a pop-up plant installation at Hamden Town Center Park this Saturday\, August 29 from 9-11am. Heavy rain cancels. Please check back here at www.hlct.org if in doubt as to the weather. Wear gloves and sturdy shoes and bring a refillable water bottle. Tools if you have them. We’ll provide some tools. \nDirections to the site: Pull into the Hamden Middle School (2623 Dixwell Avenue) and follow the road down the hill. Turn left at the “T” and take an immediate left at the sign that says “Event Parking.”  Park and meet at the rain garden site on the side nearest the library.
