SUMMARY:Learning with Nature | Monarch Migration
DESCRIPTION:Join Grace Farms Horticulture Director Kimberly Kelly and experts from Kansas State University for a hands-on field study to safely record\, tag\, and release monarch butterflies throughout Grace Farms 80 acres of landscape.\n\nLearn how to net\, tag\, and record Monarchs in a way that supports the best outcome for healthy butterflies to survive migration\, winter\, the flight north in late spring\, and successful reproduction in late summer. This workshop ends with our a cup of our butterfly pea flower tea and a culinary treat in the Commons.\n\nOver the past few decades\, monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90%. As a participant of the Kansas State University’s Monarch Watch program\, Grace Farms has been working to increase the Monarch habitat and this summer we will be participating in the Monarch Watch tagging program.\n\nRecommended for ages 12 and up. Due to uneven terrain for the field portion of the workshop\, strollers\, walkers and wheelchairs are not recommended.

SUMMARY:Birdwatching Walk
DESCRIPTION:Birdwatchers of all ages and experience are invited to join birding expert Brian O’Toole\, the Visitor Service Manager for the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. Through these guided walks\, connect with the purpose of the ecosystems we inhabit\, the vibrant life that’s a part of it\, and our role in maintaining and adding to it.\n\nBrian O’Toole serves on the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Ornithological Association. Previously\, he served as a board member for the Greenwich Audubon Society\, was the compiler for the Greenwich-Stamford Christmas Bird Count as well as the paid hawk counter for the Quaker Ridge Hawkwatch for many years. He worked as a naturalist\, camp counselor and store manager at the Greenwich Audubon Center and was a Visitor Services Manager at Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. Currently he is the Visitor Services Manager at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center in Stamford\, CT.
