“A Garden in the Winter,” a collection of pressed flower art by Marguerite Alpert, opens with an reception on January 15 from 6-8pm at Green Farms Church Gallery, 71 Hilldale Rd., Westport.
Ms. Alpert has been making art out of pressed plants for 30 years, using five handmade wooden presses. Her collection features plants that she has grown from seed, harvested from generous friend’s gardens, and collected by roadsides throughout New England.
As a lifelong gardener and student of horticulture, she first began pressing flowers and leaves inside heavy books to see if she could reproduce some of the botanical pressings she had admired in her botany books.
Her original artwork is available for purchase. She is an active exhibiting artist and six original works were selected for national juried art exhibitions in 2023 and 2024.
