Join CT NOFA on October 22 @ 7pm by Zoom for the Farm Bill Forum, hosted by the CT Climate Crisis Mobilization (C3M), the Interreligious EcoJustice Network (IREJN), and CT NOFA. Among the many pieces of legislation that have been held up by the chaos in the US House of Representatives is the Farm Bill. The Farm Bill is the most important piece of public policy shaping the U.S. food and farm system. It comes up for reauthorization every five years, including this year. Whether you realize it or not, the Farm Bill has an impact on your life and your community, and it helps shape the society in which we live. After decades of corporate influence, the Farm Bill has enabled and reinforced an agriculture system that’s divorced from the needs of both consumers and farmers. We’re all paying for the social and environmental consequences, and the system itself is unsustainable, threatening our long-term food security as well as our climate. Panelists: Dr. Kimberly Stoner, Director of Advocacy, CT NOFA; Steering Committee member, C3M; and Agricultural Scientist Emerita, CT Agricultural Experiment Station Peter Zapata, M.P.H., Farm-Based Wellness Program Manager, Gather New Haven Robert Chang, Co-Director and Director of Policy, Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust, and organic farmer at Echo Farm, Woodstock, CT MC Whalen, Coordinator, New CT Farmer Alliance and farmer at Massaro Community Farm, Woodbridge, CT Register here. |
